Phoenix saddened by domestic abuse claims vs Abueva, set to decide on his status with team

MANILA, Philippines—Calvin Abueva’s status with the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the PBA is in limbo after the suspended forward found himself in hot water anew facing grave allegations of domestic abuse from his wife.

Phoenix on Tuesday released a statement three days after Abueva’s wife Sam went live on Instagram using her embattled husband’s account and hurled several accusations toward the veteran player.

“The Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters are deeply saddened by the recent allegations about the behavior of suspended player Calvin Abueva. Claims of domestic violence and neglect have no place in our team and are seriously considered and mulled over by the company,” the statement read.

“Once a full and appropriate legal procedure of these allegations is conducted, the team will assess the situation further and from these decide Calvin’s fate with the team.”

The 31-year-old Abueva is currently serving indefinite suspension since June.

The Fuel Masters also said in the statement that they have been “reaching out” to Abueva but to no avail.

Abueva has shown zero remorse for his actions since his suspension. He had also been caught playing in other leagues which is a major offense under PBA rules.
