Gilas opens pocket stint against Congo
Gilas Pilipinas will head into the Torneo de Malaga, a four-team pocket tournament in Spain in high spirits and unbeaten in two friendlies as the Nationals step up preparations for the Fiba World Cup set to start at the end of the month in China.
The Nationals will play Congo at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday (Manila time) at Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena, hoping to duplicate a 102-80 win in Guadalajara just a couple of days back to make the title game, which would most likely be against the host Spaniards.
Ivory Coast, which the Filipinos also beat, 94-83 on Thursday, will be slugging it out with the Spaniards in the other match, with the winners of both matches advancing to the title game.
The Filipinos are making do with a 10-man roster in Spain.
