Tolenada comes of age, leads Motolite in rout of BaliPure

Iris Tolenada just might be the missing piece of the puzzle for Motolite.

On Sunday, Tolenada opened the firing lanes for her team’s top gunners to crush BaliPure, 25-9, 25-20, 25-19, for a second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at FilOil Flying V Centre.

But the Fil-American setter, in her second stint on local soil, was quick to deflect the praises to her teammates.

“It was great team work and consistency on and off the court,” said Tolenada. “Everyone on the bench contributed and that’s what it’s all about.”

Meanwhile, BanKo Perlas got back on the winning track after besting Chef’s Classics, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.

The Perlas Spikers are now in solo second spot with a 3-2 record while keeping the Red Spikers winless in four games.

The Power Builders were never threatened as Myla Pablo, Isa Molde and Tots Carlos got their range, eventually following up their win over the hapless Chef’s Classics Red Spikers last week.

“I think we are beginning to have that good mindset,” added Tolenada as they hiked their record to 2-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of Creamline.

Tolenada tossed 17 excellent sets, allowing Pablo the chance to score 12 points. Molde, Carlos and Ayi Gannaban totaled 22 points for Motolite.

The Water Defenders made things hard for themselves after committing 22 unforced errors in the first two sets.

BaliPure, after snapping a long losing spell, dropped to 1-3.
