Boxing rivals, legends pulling for Errol Spence’s recovery after car crash

MANILA, Philippines—An outpouring of support from the boxing community rained on unified welterweight champion Errol Spence, who got involved in a serious car crash in Dallas, Texas.

From welterweight foes Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter to heavyweight king Deontay Wilder, a number of boxers have shared their messages of support to Spence, the IBF and WBC 147-lb champion.

“Praying for Errol Spence Jr.,” posted Manny Pacquiao, the WBA World welterweight champion, on his Twitter account.

Porter, whom Spence defeated for the WBC belt on Sept. 28, said he wishes his former foe recover quickly and fully.

“My dad always tells me ‘this boxing thing is a part of your life but it’s not going to last forever. You still have a lot of life to live after that,’” said Porter. “With that I’m praying for Errol Spence Jr. and his family because he has a lot of live and I pray he recovers quickly and fully.”

“Praying for you champ. I know you will fight and get well soon, that’s what we are, fighters,” posted WBO World welterweight champion Crawford on Instagram.

“You’re in our prayers brotha. Speaking many blessings into the universe as well, that you may be restored with full health and a clear mind as we patiently wait on your return,” said Wilder.

According to Yahoo!, Spence’s Ferrari bounced end-over-end down the street before crashing.

Spence didn’t wear his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The report added that Spence escaped with no broken bones and is expected to get a full recovery.

“My prayers are with you,” said “Sugar” Ray Leonard. “I know you will bounce back like the champ you are.”
