Samboy Lim daughter strikes gold, leads Karate Pilipinas in Turkey tilt

MANILA, Philippines—Jamie Berberabe-Lim led the Philippines to an eight-medal haul in the 2019 Amatör Spor Haftasi Karate Championship in Sakarya, Turkey on Oct. 13.

Lim , the daughter of PBA legend Samboy Lim and former Pag-Ibig Fund CEO Darlene Berberabe, had masterful 8-0 victory against her Turkish opponent in the finals of the senior female -68 kg kumite.

Karate Pilipinas is also finishing up its two-month training camp in Turkey under the leadership of Okay Arpa, a former European and world champion and was once the head coach of the Turkish national team.

FEATURED STORIES

Other Filipinos to claim hardware in the tournament are Tacay siblings Rexor and Miyuk, who took silver in the senior male -67 kg kumite and senior female -61 kg kumite, respectively.

Ivan Agustin was the other silver medalist for the Philippines, taking the runner-up spot in the senior male -75 kg kumite.

Mae Soriano (senior female -55 kg kumite), Engene Dagohoy (senior male -84 kg kumite), Prince Alejo (senior male -67 kg kumite) and Sharief Afif (senior male -75 kg kumite) rounded out the Philippines’ medal haul with bronze medals in their respective divisions.
