SEA Games: PH’s Margaret Colonia scores silver in weightlifting

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Margaret Colonia added a silver medal to weightlifting’s medal haul in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Competing in the women’s 59-kilogram event, Colonia lifted a total of 189 kgs after clearing 82 kgs in the snatch and 107 kgs in the clean and jerk.

Colonia finished second to Vietnam’s Thi Duyen Huang, who registered a total lift of 210 kgs. Indonesia’s Putri Andriani settled for the bronze after registering a total of 177 kgs.

Colonia’s victory came just a day after top Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won her first SEA Games gold in the women’s 55-kilogram class.

Diaz was also among the spectators inside the venue as Colonia snatched the silver.

John Ceniza and Mary Flor Diaz are the other Filipino weightlifters, who have also won a medal so far in this year’s Games. Ceniza won the silver in the men’s 55 kg while Diaz claimed the bronze in the women’s 49 kg last Sunday.
