MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ Christian Concepcion fell to defending champion Thanh An Vu, 15-13, to settle for silver in fencing men’s individual sabre in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Tuesday at World Trade Center.

Concepcion was ahead in the first part of the gold medal match with an 8-7 advantage in hits, but the 2017 gold medalist from Vietnam quickly displayed his class and landed five straight hits to take a 12-8 lead.

Concepcion tried to rally back and got to within a hit, 13-12, but Vu’s experience allowed him to finish off the match and take home the gold.

Meanwhile, Samantha Catantan claimed the bronze medal in the women’s individual foil, losing to Nicolette Berthier of Singapore, 15-9, in the semifinal.
