MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo didn’t quite look pleased after dismounting from the padded apparatus in the men’s pommel horse event on Tuesday.
But despite not being able to deliver his best, Yulo still managed to snag the silver for his third medal overall in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Yulo was coming off a golden performance in his pet event, the floor exercise, but failed to continue his streak in the pommel horse, which is considered to be his weakest event, after tallying 13.233 from the judges.
The 19-year-old Yulo, the first Filipino and Southeast Asian male to become a world champion gymnast, had hoped to sweep all of his seven events.
Yulo, though, still has a chance to take home four more golds starting in the Still Rings final later in the day.
He had already bagged two after winning the individual all-around event on Sunday and the floor exercise earlier in the day with a 14.700.
Malaysia’s Fu Jie Tan claimed the pommel horse gold with a 13.967 while Vietnam’s Phuong Thanh Dinh (12.867) got the bronze.
