Carlos Yulo asked his fans to report and unfollow social media accounts that claim to be him, as he created his official Twitter page today, Dec. 3.
The 19-year-old athlete quickly gained widespread attention online after he became the first Filipino gymnast to win a gold medal in the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in Stuttgart, Germany, last October.
“Hi Twitter people, this is my official twitter account,” he said in his post. “Please report, unfollow and block dummy accounts.”

Yulo also stated that his Twitter page shares the same handle with his Instagram account @c_edrielzxs, as seen in a clip accompanying his tweet. He then appealed to his fans to continue supporting Filipino athletes.
He later pointed out that a certain page with the handle @carlos_yulo was a fake account. The said account claims to be Yulo and has over 47,000 followers, as of writing. Yulo hopes that the social media platform’s support team can suspend the dummy page, citing that it continues to gain followers using his name.
Hope @TwitterSupport @Twitter @TwitterSports@Twitter can suspend this dummy account ➡️ @carlos_yulo. Patuloy pa po syang nag gegain ng followers using my name and now gumawa pa sya ng page. 👇 https://t.co/GVHf6ByV8i

The dummy account has not responded to the athlete’s statement, and continues to pose as Yulo. The account’s handler has even created a supposedly official Facebook page for the athlete. Yulo said that the Facebook page is also a dummy page.
The fake page’s handler also made a YouTube channel using Yulo’s photo and name. Yulo clarified that he has no channel on the said platform, after a netizen (@Alter_Arma) asked him to confirm if it was his.
Nyeee. Wala po akong YouTube acct. 😬 https://t.co/by1sQ3rtK3
