SEA Games: Vietnam ends PH Malditas’ gold medal bid in football

BIÑAN CITY – Two second-half goals propelled Vietnam to a 2-0 victory over the Philippines Thursday night as the defending champions advanced to the finals of the women’s football tournament of the Southeast Asian Games here.

Thai Thi Thao and Thi Tuyet Nguyen struck for the Vietnamese at Biñan Football Stadium as they forged a battle with powerhouse Thailand for the gold medal on Sunday.

The Thais edged Myanmar, 1-0, on Orapin Waenggoen’s 78th minute strike in the other semifinal clash at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Malditas will face Myanmar in the first match on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium, before the Vietnam-Thailand battle for the gold.
