TAGAYTAY – The Philippines’ Jermyn Prado missed out on a second gold medal as she settled for the silver in the women’s road race of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that started and ended here Friday at Praying Hands Monument.

Prado, gold medalist of the individual time trial last Thursday, lost to Vietnam’s Thi Thac Nguyen in a tight finish.

Both riders registered the same clocking at 3 hours, 23:57, but the Vietnamese star showcased her sprinting prowess, finishing just a bike’s length ahead of the Filipino bet.

Delia Priatna took the bronze after finishing a minute and five seconds behind Nguyen.

The other Filipino bet in the event, Mariella Salamat, finished in 3:25:04 for seventh spot.

“I’m just happy because it’s really hard to win in these type of events,” said Prado who hails from Pagbilao, Quezon.

Both Prado and Nguyen pulled away from the pack in the last 25 kilometers near Calaca, Batangas.

“We just tried our best to finish because we were already cramping. Sprinting isn’t really my strength and unfortunately for me, Nguyen is a known sprinter and she showed that in the end.”
