This is not the first time Hood has set the world record for the longest plank position. He previously set the record in 2013 with a time of three hours, seven minutes and 15 seconds. However, he lost the title in a head-to-head challenge with Mao Weidong of China in 2016, who clocked in at eight hours and one minute.

Hood prepared for the record-breaking feat by undergoing various training regiments that included doing 674,000 sit-ups and 270,000 push-ups. He also did a practice attempt in 2018, staying in the plank position for 10 hours and 10 minutes. The rigorous training resulted in him planking for a total of 2,100 hours.

He beat the previous world record to raise awareness on how exercise can help improve one’s mental health. During the event, Hood also spoke with people with autism and adult learning difficulties.
