La Salle topples Ateneo in stunning debut

MANILA, Philippines — La Salle opened its bid with a stunning 25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15 victory over defending champion Ateneo Saturday night in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Spikers scored their seventh straight win over the Lady Eagles dating back to Season 79.
La Salle, bouyed by new faces in the fold like Thea Gagante, stormed ahead, 20-4, in the fourth set to deal Ateneo’s first defeat in two starts.
Tin Tiamzon scored 17 points, while rookie Gagante had 10 for the the Lady Spikers, who underwent changes in their roster after missing the finals last year.
