MANILA, Philippines–Redefining what it means to be a champion, the Adamson University softball team found other ways to inspire with the UAAP season on hiatus amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The reigning nine-time champions were stranded inside dormitories of the school but they used their time off by assisting others through the Vincentian priests’ Charity Over Virus Indifference and Despair (COVID) and Facemasks Cover Your Face Not Your Hearts program.

“For our part, even the small things can be of big help to the families in need here in Metro Manila especially during these times when we need each other the most,” said decorated Adamson head coach Ana Santiago, whose squad teamed up to pack goods for donations.

The enhanced community quarantine imposed on Luzon last week prevented the players from getting back home to their respective provinces, but that predicament didn’t keep them from going out of their way to lend a hand.

“We have players who were unable to go back to their provinces because commuting got very expensive while others couldn’t because of the community quarantine,” said Santiago.

“That’s why we’re using this time to help and pray for our country.”
