With defending champion Manila Sharks orphaned by some of its finest players, a wide-open title race looms in Season 9 of Baseball Philippines that starts Saturday at the Rizal Memorial ballpark.
The Sharks will be without seven of their players who are with the national team training for the World Baseball Classic.
“We’re going for a fourth straight title,” said team manager Eric Cadavillo at the PSA Forum yesterday.
“We have a more balanced field because of the absence of national team members,” said BP executive director Nolan Bernardino.
The tournament will adopt a triple round-robin, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. C.P. Tupas
