The Philippines has proven time and again that it is a force to be reckoned with in both baseball and softball in the region. So merging the governing bodies of the bat-and-ball sports here may not be happening just yet.
After all, why fix it when it ain’t broke?
Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (Paba) secretary general Pepe Muñoz said things are going great for both sports and “there’s no move” to combine Paba with the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines.
The statement came after World Baseball/Softball Confederation president Riccardo Fraccari recently announced the successes reaped from the sports’ merger back in 2013.
“I believe no other sport, no other federation, has achieved that success in such a short time,” Fraccari said.
Europe, Africa and Oceania have already merged their governing bodies, but Fraccari said he is “very careful” bringing up the topic in America and Asia, which still have separate continental federations. He will have to do a lot of convincing, especially in countries where both sports thrive.
