MANILA, Philippines—Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield had one of the most heated rivalries in boxing during the 1990s but the two old heads have now become the closest of friends.
There is, however, the allure of a third bout albeit in an exhibition setting and Tyson sees no problems touching gloves with his buddy.
In an interview with TMZ Live, Tyson said that it would be a great exhibition for him and Holyfield and the hype itself would help them generate funds for charity.
“That would be awesome for charity,” said Tyson, who is now 53-years-old. “Can you imagine me and Holyfield going in the ring together.”
Both Tyson and Holyfield became undisputed heavyweight champions in the past but it was the latter who had his arm raised in victory in the two bouts they’ve had in the 90s.
Holyfield stopped Tyson in the 11th round of their first match in 1996 taking the WBA World heavyweight title then earned a highly memorable win in the 1997, although the victory was marred in infamy.
Tyson lost via disqualification in the third round after he bit off a part of Holyfield’s right ear.
Time, though, healed all wounds between the two and both of the iconic fighters have been keeping in shape during the quarantine period that COVID-19 induced.
Tyson has been posting workout videos on his Instagram while Holyfield, 57, did the same.
The prospect of raising funds for those in need and thus sparked Tyson to hype up a prospective third dance with Holyfield.
“Hey listen, there are a lot of people out there that need help and something like that could help a lot of people who are in need.”
