MANILA, Philippines — The PBA on Tuesday suspended Tab Baldwin for three games and imposed a P75,000 fine for his comments “detrimental to the league.”

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial handed down the suspension and fine a day after a conference call with the Kiwi-American mentor, who criticized the league’s officiating and format and described Filipino coaches as “tactically immature” in the Coaches Unfiltered podcast last Thursday.

During the call with Marcial, deputy commissioner Eric Castro and league legal counsel Melvin Mendoza, Baldwin apologized and said his remarks were “taken out of context.”

Baldwin, a former head coach of the Philippine team, serves as Gilas Pilipinas’ program director and listed as assistant coach to Bong Ravena at TNT KaTropa,

Local coaches and even Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio have expressed their dismay over Baldwin’s remarks.
