MANILA, Philippines—Phoenix head coach Louie Alas is someone who always looks at the glass-half-full side of things.

With things looking up for the PBA, he believes that the league can resume play before 2020 ends.

Despite doubts on the PBA resumption, Alas believes the league can play once more especially with the Commissioner’s Office eyeing July 22 as the start of team practices.

“Everyone around me says ‘coach, it’ll be next year.’ Everyone, even my siblings who are living abroad say that ‘oh, there’s no more league,’” said Alas in Filipino as per PBA.ph. “I tell them, no, this will start.’”

Alas even projected September as the month when the PBA goes back to play.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases already allowed professional football and basketball teams to practice, albeit in a limited capacity, but the PBA wants to receive first the proper paperwork before they allow their clubs to return to their facilities.

Alas said that his players share the same sentiment.

Despite their excitement, Alas said that players and personnel still have to abide by the health protocols that the league will implement to avoid any infections.

“We have to be careful, and we shouldn’t be stubborn,” said Alas. “Let’s all follow the protocols and we’ll get out of this better.”
