Calvin Abueva on overseas offers: I have problem to fix here, I can’t just leave
MANILA, Philippines—Calvin Abueva said he has been getting offers to play overseas, but there are many reasons why he is choosing to stay in the Philippines.
After Thirdy Ravena, who has been tapped to play in the Japanese BLeague, Abueva also reportedly got recruited to play in the East Asian nation.
Article continues after this advertisementThe PBA’s beleaguered star, who still serving a suspension that started in June 2019, though, would rather fix his problem here in the Philippines.
“Ang daming kumukuha sa amin pero may big problem ako sa PBA at ‘di rin ako makakaalis basta basta,” said Abueva in an appearance at Sports Page.
(There are a lot of teams wanting to sign me but I have a big problem here with the PBA and I can’t just leave easily.)
Article continues after this advertisementAbueva is still under contract with Phoenix and he’s taking care of his restaurant, Dampa ni The Beast, while he’s serving his suspension.
Moreover, Abueva would want to once again suit up for the national team after two years of being left out of the squad.
There’s also the issue of raising five boys whom he wants to follow in his footsteps of becoming a basketball player.
“Gustung gusto ko talaga makabalik at makalaro sa Philippine team,” said Abueva. “Siyempre ang mga anak ko limang lalaki at gusto ko silang sumunod sa yapak ko sa paglalaro.”
(I really want to play again for the Philippine team. Of course I have five kids, all of whom are boys, and I want them to follow in my footsteps of becoming a basketball player.)
