De los Santos bags 6th gold in virtual meet

MANILA, Philippines — James De los Santos secured his sixth gold medal in international competitions during the quarantine period after a successful campaign in the eChampions Trophy World Series Sunday.

The Filipino karateka defeated Switzerland’s Moreno Domont Matias in the final of the online tournament.

De los Santos was just three days removed from his fifth gold when he won the title in the E-Karate Games 2020 in the Men’s Senior Shotokan Kata division.

“This tournament will add points to the virtual kata world rankings,” posted De los Santos on his Instagram account. “The journey to the no.1 continues.”

A natural user of kata Unsu, De los Santos switched to kata Sansai for the final against Matias, who ranks No. 10 in the world, a move that earned him the title in the online competition.

De los Santos bested Canada’s Taylor Scott in the semifinals of the eChampions Trophy World Series.
