The National Taekwondo Team, spearheaded by its Olympic hopefuls, will be joining the first Global Taekwondo Online Speed Kicking Championships slated on October 23-25, 2020.

National Team mainstays Pauline Louise Lopez, Kirstie Elaine Alora, Arven Alcantara, Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison, Kurt Bryan Barbosa have been keeping in shape thru local speed kicking events while physical training and tournaments are still prohibited due to the pandemic.

Throughout this Covid-19 crisis, PTA strived to keep the country’s taekwondo community fit by hosting national tournaments and multiple regional events online, keeping competitive athletes active these past months by adapting quickly to the “new normal.”

This event is the first-ever in the world and hosted by the Philippine Taekwondo Association where athletes will have to perform the most number of kicks in exactly a minute.  The participants shall be scored by an online set of judges based on technical (number of kicks) and overall performance (quality of techniques).

About 1,000 participants from all over the world with 23 countries from Japan, Korea, Guam, Ethiopia, Mexico, Iran, Bostwana, and  USA, amongst others.

Competing athletes will have to perform the most number of kicks in exactly a minute. The participants shall be scored by an online set of judges based on technical (number of kicks) and overall performance (quality of techniques).

It will feature Cadet (12-14), Junior (15-17), and Senior (18 above) in both male and female divisions in ten (10) weight categories. Only a blackbelt degree is required to join.

We hope our athletes will get good results in this competition.  It is also a tune-up to them in preparation for the 2021 World Championships to be held in China and  Asian Championships in Lebanon.

Sponsors of the event include Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, and MILO.
