MANILA, Philippines — The PBA on Sunday announced that the latest antigen test administered for the Blackwater player earlier has come out negative.
The league earlier announced that the said player initially tested positive for COVID-19 but things are now looking up as the PBA waits for the result of the RT-PCR test on Monday.
“Just earlier he tested via antigen and negative result came out,” said PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro in a virtual press conference. “We will wait for the RT-PCR test tomorrow (Monday).”
The PBA, together with the Bases Conversion Development Authority, set up a series of protocols in handling COVID-19-positive tests within the bubble inside Clark and one of those measures is extracting anyone who tested positive for the virus and bring them to the Athletes’ Village in New Clark City.
A similar action was done when one of the referees tested positive for the virus.
The said referee has now received negative results for both antigen and RT-PCR tests but will still undergo the re-entry protocols when he goes back to Quest Hotel, the PBA’s housing partner for the bubble.
PBA’s medical consultant Dr. George Canlas said that they still need a negative result from the RT-PCR test to allow the Elite player to go back to the bubble.
“Once we see that he’s tested positive again in the RT-PCR test then he’s negative of the virus,” said Canlas in Filipino.
