MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia has a good sense as to where Rey Nambatac’s PBA career is heading.

Nambatac is only in his third season in the PBA but Garcia had seen enough to know that the spitfire guard is destined for stardom.

“Like I said from the beginning, Rey is a different type of player,” Garcia said after Rain or Shine’s 85-82 overtime win over Barangay Ginebra Tuesday night.

“He’s gonna be the future of the player, he’ll be a superstar eventually.”

The 26-year-old Nambatac only had eight points, six rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes against the Gin Kings. But as to how significant his role with the Elasto Painters is, goes beyond the boxscores.

Nambatac has a knack for hitting big shots in key moments of the game and he showed it again after draining a clutch triple against Ginebra with 1.4 seconds left in regulation.

“He likes that position that he’ll take those shots,” Garcia said.
