ONE: Filipino Ramon Gonzales loses to Indonesian foe
MANILA, Philippines — Ramon Gonzales’ bid to climb the rankings and enter the title picture got derailed on Friday.
Facing his toughest challenge yet, Gonzales was stopped in the first round by Eko Roni Saputra of Indonesia in ONE: Inside the Matrix II at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The Filipino flyweight got in trouble quickly after he was taken down a little over a minute into the bout by Saputra, who went for the rear-naked choke to pick up the submission victory.
The 29-year-old Saputra picked up his fourth straight win to improve 4-1.
Gonzales (4-4) lost for the second consecutive time after going on a three-fight streak.
In the main event, Kiamrian Abbasov retained the ONE welterweight belt after stopping James Nakashima in the fourth round.
