MANILA, Philippines — Filipino atomweight Jomary Torres hopes to finally snap out of her slump against Indian wrestling champion Ritu Phogat in ONE: Big Bang on Dec. 4 in Singapore.

After starting her career with four straight wins, Torres has gone downhill, dropping four of her past five bouts. Her last fight against Jenny Huang in January ended in a no contest due to an accidental low blow.

Torres hasn’t tasted victory since knocking out compatriot April Osenio back in January 2018 that’s why she’s aiming for a spectacular finish against Phogat.

“I want to win this fight for my family, to make them proud, and to help them. I want to knock her out,” Torres said.

The 24-year-old Torres, however, is expected to have her hands full against Phogat, who has been nothing short of dominant since her ONE Championship debut in November of last year.

“She’s a very good wrestler, so of course, I have to watch out for her takedowns. She also has much improved striking,” said Torres.

“I’ve been working on my wrestling with coach Rene (Catalan). I know I’m the underdog here and people think I have very little chance of beating her. But I think I will surprise a lot of people. I’m determined to win because I’m fighting for my family. Fans should expect a good, exciting fight.”
