MANILA, Philippines — Indian wrestling champion Ritu Phogat is bracing for a hard-fought battle when she stakes her undefeated run against Filipino Jomary Torres on Friday in Singapore.

Phogat, who boasts a 3-0 record, is not taking Torres lightly despite being the favorite ahead of their atomweight bout in ONE: Big Bang in Singapore.

“This match is going to be really good. Torres is really good, and it is going to be an interesting match. Definitely, she is a good fighter. She is going to be a challenge for me,” she said.

“I have watched her fights, and she is good. I respect her a lot, but I trust my training and hard work.”
Torres has been on a downward spiral since starting his MMA career with four straight wins. She’s lost four in a row since.

But Phogat, who stopped Nou Srey Pov of Cambodia in the second round just last October 30, won’t make the mistake of underestimating her opponent.

“She has a strong stand-up game, but I think my wrestling game is better. I am hoping that my ground game trumps her game,” she said.

“I hope that whoever is watching, they see me as doing something different. I would surely like to do something different this time.”
