MANILA, Philippines—With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, UAAP and its broadcast partner had considered a bubble concept for the league’s Season 84.

During a virtual press conference, Robert P. Galang, Cignal TV and TV5 President and CEO, said they were prepared to establish environment for the varsity teams of the eight member schools.

That concept, however, never materialized.

“Following the success of the recently concluded PBA Bubble, the UAAP Bubble was something that was being considered to ensure the safety of all the students, officials, production team and other participants when the games eventually resume,” said Galang in an e-mail.

“But of course, the health and safety of everyone involved are of paramount importance to us.”

The PBA was the first professional league to create a bubble with its teams, officials, staff, and media confined in Clark, Pampanga for the Philippine Cup.

From October until December, all those living in the bubble weren’t allowed to leave and were under strict health protocols while traveling back and forth from Quest Hotel to Angeles University Foundation.

UAAP Season 84 is set to start in September 2021 barring any changes.
