MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua clarified that there’s no ill will between him and beleaguered center Greg Slaughter, who apologized to the company’s management for his behavior after deciding to on a sabbatical.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Chua said that he and Slaughter have yet to talk following the seven-footer’s sudden departure from the PBA after he and Ginebra failed to finalize a new contract.
Slaughter, who recently married to longtime girlfriend Schinina, apologized to SMC President Ramon S. Ang, Chua and Ginebra fans in a tweetWednesday.
“Really? That’s good,” said Chua of Slaughter’s apology that was posted on his Instagram stories. “There’s no bad blood. I think he’s mature enough to realize that what he did is wrong.”
Slaughter said his sabbatical was meant to better himself as a person and not just a basketball player.
He did, however, regret a sort of falling out between him and the SMC bosses.
“My only regret is that the communication between myself and management, particularly Boss Ramon S. Ang and coach Alfrancis Chua, did not go as smoothly as I would have wanted. I want to apologize to them and the rest of management,” wrote Slaughter.
Right now, though, Chua said he’s just enjoying the holidays.
“I’ve been very busy with work the past few weeks and I am looking forward to just enjoying the holidays,” said Chua. “I’m not really thinking much of what’s happened.”
“Maybe after the holidays, we can talk in person,” added Chua.
