UPDATE
MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel is once again looking to bolster its ranks as it now plans to trade for former scoring champion and Rookie of the Year CJ Perez.
As per reports, the Beermen and Terrafirma have reached an agreement that would send Perez to San Miguel in exchange for role players Gelo Alolino, Russel Escoto, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser and a first round draft pick in this year’s rookie selection.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said he’s received the trade papers this afternoon and the transaction will now be under the approval of the league’s trade committee.
This wasn’t the first time that San Miguel dabbled in a landscape-changing trade in the past four years.
The Beermen stirred the league when they traded for the draft rights of Christian Standhardinger in the 2017 Draft in exchange for Ronald Tubid, Jay-R Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy and their 2019 first round draft pick that turned to Christian Balagasay.
Then in 2018 San Miguel traded with TNT for two-time scoring champion Terrence Romeo in exchange for Brian Heruela and David Semerad.
The last meaningful trade the Beermen did was a one-on-one swap that sent Standhardinger to NorthPort for Moala Tautuaa.
Perez’s possible arrival to San Miguel will boost San Miguel’s already loaded lineup that includes six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo, 2013 MVP Arwind Santos, and Mythical Team selections Romeo, Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross, and Marcio Lassiter.
