MANILA—Armed Forces of the Philippines Golf Club continued to stamp its class in the eighth Asian Ladies Team Golf Championship, assembling a second-round 150 to all but wrap up its second straight championship at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City last Wednesday.
Matet Salivio slowed down a bit with a 55 after a 56 but Josie Untal and Karen Kime improved to 48 and 47, respectively, as the AFP ladies roared to a 47-point lead over Tagaytay Highlands heading into the final round.
AFP posted a 295 aggregate in the 54-hole event using the Molave scoring system with Mabel Salivio again failing to count with a 42 that normally anchors the output of teams in the four-to-play, three-to-count format.
Camp John Hay (127) and Manila Southwoods (124) shared third while Forest Hills Nicklaus shot 121 for fourth at 228 in Group 1.
With a 111 aggregate, Matet Salivio was also poised to run away with the Group 1 individual title as she took a 19-point lead over Manila Southwoods’ Beachie Abiera, and teammates Untal and Kime.
Camp John Hay also kept its lead in the two other groups, shooting a 114 for 226 for a 12-point lead over Forest Hills Palmer (117-214) in Group 2 and churning out a 107 for a 219 total and a 19-point margin over Forest Hills Carlos (101-200) in Group 3.
Rita Horan of Alabang paced the Group 2 individual race by three with 86 points.
