MANILA, Philippines—EJ Obiena continued to make history when he broke the Philippine record that he himself set in his gold medal campaign in the Internationales Stadionfest Indoor athletics meet Friday in Berlin, Germany.

The Philippine representative to the Tokyo Olympics cleared 5.80 meters in the final of the Berlin competition, shattering the previous record of 5.62 meters he recorded just a week ago in the World Athletics Indoor Tour Leg in Karlsruhe.

“An unexpected, surreal, pleasant, wonderful, surprise. So grateful for this win!” wrote Obiena on his Facebook account.
