MANILA, Philippines—Mikey Williams, the fourth overall pick of the 2021 PBA Draft, is ready to prove his worth.
After all, TNT did make some moves just to get him with the fourth pick.
“Definitely expect an electrifying player who’ll definitely do what he does. I love to put on a show,” said Williams as per PBA.ph.
“Every level I’ve been on I’ve been able to experience and do the things I love to do and that’s to play the game. I can’t wait to show the fans of TNT and definitely show everybody in the Philippines what I need to do and prove to everybody what I can do.”
TNT, which did not have a draft pick in the first two rounds, organized a three-team trade that landed the club the fourth overall selection in a transaction that involved Blackwater and NLEX—the original owner of the pick.
That trade needed the Road Warriors to first send the no.4 pick to Blackwater for Maurice Shaw, Roi Sumang, Don Trollano, and the Bossing’s 2022 second round pick.
Blackwater then sent that pick to the Tropang Giga for Simon Enciso, David Semerad, TNT’s 2023 first round and 2024 second round picks.
Nevertheless, TNT got the player it wanted with Williams boasting a stint in the NBA G League when he played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the 2014-15 season before suiting up for the Canton Charge from 2016 to 2018.
Williams knows the pressure put on him as a prized rookie but the 28-year-old would rather start off building chemistry with his teammates.
“I’m looking forward to just being around everybody and seeing how well we can jell on the court because chemistry is the biggest part of anything in basketball,” said Williams, whose mother hails from Naga City.
“Because If you don’t have chemistry, that’s the team orientation that you need to get far.”
