MANILA, Philippines — Kalei Mau on Tuesday announced she won’t be able to participate in the national volleyball team tryouts, which begin on Wednesday in Subic.

Mau, who plays for the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, was among the 40 players selected by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) to compete for a spot in the women’s national team.

“To all my Filipino supporters, Salamat sa lahat (thank you for everything) for your constant love and support. I want you to hear it from me first that I will be playing abroad for a 2.5 month season. I plan to return to PH after this quick stint to compete in the PVL with my team @F2CargoMovers,” Mau wrote on social media.

“With that being said, I will not be able to attend the National Team tryouts this week due to travel restrictions and safety risks. But my dream to play for the Philippine flag has and will not change.”

The national team tryouts, scheduled until Friday, will be held in a bubble.

The 26-year-old Mau, who is in the United States, will play as an import for Las Changas de Naranjito in Puerto Rico.

The Premier Volleyball League is aiming to launch its maiden professional season in June at the earliest after its original date was pushed back due to the surge of COVID-19 infections in the country.
