Didal’s Tokyo journey begins with systematic training

MANILA, Philippines—Skateboarder Margielyn Didal officially secured her spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by virtue of her place in the sport’s world rankings.

World Skate, the international governing body for all roller skating sports, announced on Thursday the skateboarders who would compete in the Tokyo Games and Didal was one of the 20 female athletes chosen for the street event.

Didal is the no.17 female street skater in the world in World Skate’s rankings.

“Congratulations to every skateboarder who poured their everything into this,” posted World Skate on Facebook.

The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist became the 10th Filipino to be part of the Philippines’ contingent to the Summer Games as she joins boxers Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Petecio, Irish Magno, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz gymnast Carlos Yulo, pole vaulter EJ Obiena, rower Cris Nievarez, and taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa.

This will be the first time that skateboarding featured in the biggest sporting event in the world that will be played held from July 23 to August 8.
