San Beda, JRU rule NCAA online poomsae

MANILA, Philippines—San Beda and Jose Rizal University captured gold in the online poomsae competition of the NCAA Season 96 taekwondo tournament.

The Red Lions’ Alfritz Arevalo and Emie Fernandez of the Lady Bombers took the gold medal in the men’s and women’s divisions in the standard poomsae, respectively.

Arevalo, who hails from Baguio City, won the gold after his performance netted him 7.217 points to beat silver medalist van Murray Solimen of College of St. Benilde (7.134 points), and bronze winner Roi Vinson Belano of Letran (7.083).

Fernandez, meanwhile, garnered 7.550 points for her performance defeating CSB’s Diane Nicole Supangan, who scored 7.284 to win the silver medal, and San Beda’s Lara Alejandrea Andres, who had 6.867 points to settle for the bronze.

Standard Juniors and Freestyle events will still be played while the speed kicking competition will be held from June 15 until July 5.
