Ciryl Gane picks up unanimous decision in UFC heavyweight bout

Heavyweight Ciryl Gane of France ran his record to 9-0-0 with a unanimous decision over Alexander Volkov of Russia at UFC Fight Night in the Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The main event match wasn’t close, with the judges scoring it 50-45, 50-45, 49-46.

Gane unleashed 135 significant strikes to 115 for Volkov (33-9-0). The winner’s total was seventh-most at the heavyweight level in UFC, according to ESPN.

Volkov displayed a powerful right hand and some hard leg kicks, had moments with hard leg kicks and his big right hand.

“This guy, for me, is one of the best in the division. He’s really tough. It’s the first time a man me like him,” Gane said afterward. “I’m good. A little dents on my face, but I like that. It’s my job.”

In the heavyweight co-main, Tanner Boser (20-8-1) of Canada defeated Ovince Saint Preux (25-16-0) of the U.S. on a TKO at 2:31 of the second round. Boser had 33 significant strikes to nine for Saint Preux.

Bantamweight Timur Valiev (18-2-0, 1 no-contest) of Russia took a decision over Raoni Barcelos (16-2-0) of Brazil.

Welterweight Tim Means (32-12-1, 1 no-contest) of the U.S. and lightweight Renato Moicano (15-4-1) of Brazil also posted victories Saturday night, while the featherweight bout between Americans Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda was declared a no contest with 46 seconds left in the second round.
