MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Olympians have been making themselves comfortable in their respective venues ahead of the Tokyo Summer Games.

Only the country’s bets in golf and athletics have yet to settle at the Olympic Village while the others have continued their training upon their arrival.

“Team Hidilyn [Diaz] is already training, as well as the boxing team,” Team Philippines Chef e mission Nonong Araneta said. “There are challenges in bringing the athletes to their training venues, but they are all under control.”

The athletes also linked up at the Village with top weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and Asian skateboarding champion Margielyn Didal posing for a photo on Tuesday.

“Thank you Japan pinagpatuloy niyo pa rin ang Olympics kahit nasa pandemic tayo,” Diaz said in a separate Instagram post on Tuesday.

(Thank you Japan for pushing through with the Olympics even though we’re in the middle of a pandemic.)

“Sobrang saya kasi nandito na kami. Thank you God.”

(I’m overjoyed because we’re already here. Thank you God.)

Skate Pilipinas posted photos of Didal checking out the Ariake Urban Sports Park, the venue for the skateboarding competition.

Kurt Barbosa, the country’s lone taekwondo jin in Tokyo, and boxer Nesthy Petecio have also managed to take some time off to appreciate the sights while inside the Village.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), meanwhile, has welcomed tankers Remedy Rule and Luke Gebbie.

The Philippines sent a total of 19 athletes to the Games, the country’s biggest delegation since Sydney 2000.
