Perpetual Help stymies FEU in straight sets at V-League

MANILA, Philippines — University of Perpetual Help disposed of Far Eastern University in three hardfought sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, to improve its spot in the 9th Shakey’s V-League First Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Altas, seizing second spot in group A along with a ticket to the quarterfinals, led throughout the contest despite scoring spurts from the Lady Tamaraws.

Honey Royse Tubino ended a long drought for Perpetual Help in the third set and closed out the game with a kill for her squad’s third victory with just one loss.

Tubino finished with 11 points, four coming from blocks, while Sandra De Los Santos carried the squad with 12 points.

Guest player Pornpimol Kunbang finished with a game-best 17 points for Perpetual Help.

“It was a good game, our import and our setter are starting to gel,” said head coach Mike Rafael.

The Lady Altas were holding on to a comfortable 24-15 edge when the Lady Tamaraws started a rally to cut the deficit down to four.

But the hole was too deep to dig out of as FEU absorbed their second loss and sunk to third place in the same group, but still assured itself a quarterfinals spot.

Samantha Dawson had 11 points on a losing effort for the Lady Tamaraws.
