Construction of Tagaytay houses for Olympic medalists begins
MANILA, Philippines—From Olympic medalists to neighbors.
The construction of Hidilyn Diaz, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial’s new Tagaytay houses has begun with the ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday.
Philippine Olympic Committee chief Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino had promised houses for medalists in the Tokyo Olympics. Construction is expected to be completed in December in Barangay San Jose.
Valued at P5 million each, the houses will feature two bedrooms and an attic with the homes situated at the aptly-named Olympic Lane of the community.
Tolentino led the groundbreaking ceremony of Diaz’s new house while his brother Sen. Francis Tolentino accompanied Petecio, Paalam, and Marcial of the national boxing team.
Diaz won the Philippines’ first Olympic gold after ruling the women’s weightlifting 55-kilogram division while Petecio and Paalam settled for the silver medal in the women’s featherweight and men’s flyweight divisions, respectively.
Marcial took the bronze in the men’s middleweight division.
