MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Volleyball Federation said it wasn’t too concerned with the resignation of assistant coach Tai Bundit from the women’s national team.
In a statement, the PNVF said it accepted Bundit’s resignation, but was “hardly piqued” by the Thai national’s exit.
The sporting association said that Bundit benefited from using his visa for his coaching job with Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League.
“The PNVF, through the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), earnestly and rigidly worked for the issuance of Bundit’s visa amid difficult travel restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the group in the statement.
“But instead of reporting to the PNVF, Bundit benefited from his visa for his coaching job at Creamline in the Premiere Volleyball League (PVL).”
The Cool Smashers, under the guidance of Bundit, eventually lost to Chery Tiggo in the PVL Open Conference finals.
Tony Boy Liao, the PNVF national team department chair, said Bundit tendered his resignation as he was concerned for his family in Thailand amid the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Bundit flew back to Thailand on Thursday evening.
