MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine women’s national basketball team is set for a bubble training camp at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna ahead of next month’s Fiba Women’s Asia Cup.
Gilas Pilipinas Women have 12 players invited to the camp, eight of whom are mainstays led by Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos.
Joining the two are fellow veterans France Cabinbin, Ana Castillo, Clare Castro, Ria Napalan, Mar Prado and Andrea Tongco.
Also part of the buildup are Camille Clarin, Kristine Cayabyab, Ella Fajardo and Karl Pingol.
The team is expected to miss the services of its star center Jack Animam, who will play professionally in Serbia.
The Fiba Asia Cup is scheduled from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 in Amman, Jordan.
Gilas will face China, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Taiwan in the continental meet.
Clarin, Cayabyab and Pingol will also compete in the Fiba 3×3 Under-23 World Cup, which takes place from Oct. 11 to 13 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with a fourth player yet to be named.
