MANILA, Philippines—Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas won’t be with the national side when it competes in the Asian Club Volleyball Championship next month in Thailand.

But expect the two standouts to play for the Philippine team in the future, national coach Dante Alinsunurin said.

Espejo and Bagunas will miss the upcoming tournament due to their commitments with their Japanese clubs in the V.League.

“We have communication with the club teams of Bryan and Mark,” Alinsunurin said in Filipino Tuesday during the PSA Forum.

“What we talked about is that every time the national team is playing on the international stage, they will be able to play.”

The club competition will run from October 8-15 which coincides with Bagunas and Espejo’s schedules in the V.League.

Bagunas is in his third run with Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler while Espejo will play his first season for FC Tokyo.

Despite the absence of the two, Alinsunurin is confident the team will hold its own.

“The team remains solid even though Bryan and Marck are not here.”
