MANILA, Philippines—Three Filipinos stamped their class in the 2021 World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Halmstad, Sweden.
Veronica Ompod led the Philippines’ medal haul with four gold medals in the 43kg Women’s Junior division on Monday.
“Veronica Ompod had an unexpected cruise to 4 gold medals when all her competitors failed to make weight in the 43 kg Women’s Junior division,” Powerlifting Association of the Philippines posted on its Facebook page. “Regardless, Veronica was the top seed to win the gold anyway over all her competitors based on the official nominations.”
Congratulations Agustin Lorenzo for clinching the silver medal in the men’s 74kg Sub-Junior division of the 2021 World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Halmstad, Sweden.

Jane Erasmo, who participated in her first international competition, also took home multiple medals with four bronzes in the 47kg Women’s Sub-Junior class.
“Veronica & Jane arrived in Halmstad just hours before their weigh-in and competition, depriving them of proper rest,” the association said. “Circumstances made it difficult to arrange to arrive earlier but the 2 young lifters still managed to put up a good performance.”
In the men’s 74kg Sub-Junior event, Agustin Lorenzo seized the silver after lifting 147.5kg on his third try.
