MANILA, Philippines—The Premier Volleyball League plans to hold its next conference early next year in what likely will be another bubble tournament, league president Ricky Palou said.

Speaking in a virtual press conference ahead of the PVL Moment Awards, Palou said initial plans to for the second tournament later this year were canceled amid the overalll COVID-19 situation in the country.

“Well first of all we’re planning originally to have another conference before the end of the year but looking at the situation and discussing this with all the team owners and managers we decided to move the next conference to first quarter of 2022,” said Palou.

“We just wanted to make sure that everything will be safe especially for the players and the people involved in running the league.”

The PVL completed the Open Conference in Ilocos Norte from July to August this year. Chery Tiggo emerged as the champion defeating Creamline in three matches.

Palou said that they would likely employ a similar setup that they did in Ilocos Norte for the next conference, although they’re still looking for a venue for the second conference.

“We really want a setup where the players are free to move in and out of the venues but I don’t think the situation by the first quarter of 2022 will be allowed so we’ll probably be looking at a similar setup on a bubble tournament,” said Palou.

“We’re checking out where we can have another bubble tournament.”
