Calvin Abueva still leads PBA Best Player race after quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines—Magnolia’s Calvin Abueva maintained pole position in the race for the Best Player of the Conference in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup.

Abueva, who led the race at the end of the elimination round, is once again ahead after the quarterfinals as he accumulated 36.4 average statistical points on the back of 15.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks across 13 games.

TNT rookie Mikey Williams maintained his spot at second place with 35.0 average SPs while posting game averages of 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals across 11 matches.

NorthPort’s Robert Bolick was still at third as he tallied 33.7 average SPs on daily averages of 17.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists across 13 games.

Unlike Abueva and Williams, however, Bolick and the Batang Pier have been eliminated from the playoffs.

Magnolia and TNT are headed to the semifinals against Meralco and San Miguel, respectively.

Abueva’s Hotshots teammate Ian Sangalang came in at fourth after the quarterfinals with 32.3 average SPs while posting 16.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game across 13 outings.

San Miguel’s CJ Perez rounded out the top five with 31.5 average SPs on the back of 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals on 13 games, most of which he played off the bench.
