MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-American figure skater Sofia Frank etched her name in Philippine skating history after a promising run in the 2021 Finlandia Trophy in Espoo, Finland.

Frank broke three national records—short program, free skate and total score—previously held by Fil-Swiss skater and Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Alisson Perticheto.

The 16-year-old Frank tallied 53.3 in the short program and 94.79 in free skate for a total of 148.09 which was good for 18th place out of 26 participants.

“Sofia Frank raises the bar once again as she breaks more records in Philippine figure skating,” the Philippine Skating Union said.

“She is now the official holder of the country’s best scores for short program, free skate, and total scores,” the federation added. “This is only Sofia’s 2nd appearance in the international stage of figure skating, and the total scores are conquered by a significant 8.39 pts. Well done Sofia.”

Frank also set a new personal best, topping her performance in the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany last month where she placed 22nd.

Filipino figure skaters Michael Martinez, who returned from a three-year hiatus, and Christopher Caluza settled for 24th and 25th, respectively.
