MANILA, Philippines — TNT last won a title was back in the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup while it’s been eight years since it celebrated an all-Filipino crown.
Longing for a championship, the Tropang Giga are hellbent on reclaiming their lost glory.
They get another shot at it beginning Wednesday against the Magnolia Hotshots, who are also in the middle of a title drought of their own in the Philippine Cup.
“The team is really hungry. It’s been six years since the last championship of the franchise and I think in that regard, If you ask me, they’re very hungry [to win the title],” said returning TNT head coach Chot Reyes.
Magnolia coach Chito Victolero said the Hotshots, too, are starving for a Philippine Cup championship having lost in the all-Filipino finals twice in 2018 and 2019 to San Miguel Beer.
“We have the same mindset as coach Chot because this is our third time and our core has been together for a long time now since our first try in 2018 in the Philippine Cup. Hopefully, we get over the hump,” said Victolero, who guided Magnolia to a championship in the 2018 Governors’ Cup. “So our hunger will really show during the games.”
