MANILA, Philippines—Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva was named the PBA-Davco Best Player of the Conference on Wednesday following a stellar first season with the Hotshots in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup.

The award is Abueva’s second after he was named the BPC in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup as part of the Alaska Aces.

Abueva, who had the most average statistical points throughout the conference, earned a total of 934 points (415 from stats, 440 from the media, 54 from the players, and 25 from the league office) to beat TNT rookie Mikey Williams, who placed second in the voting with a total of 843 points (389 from stats, 245 from the media, 59 from the players, and 150 from the league office).

Magnolia’s mercurial forward led his team to an 8-3 record for third place after the elimination round.

Hotshots center Ian Sangalang was third in the BPC voting with 591 points (401 from stats, 82 from the media, 33 from the players, and 75 from the league office) while NorthPort guard Robert Bolick placed fourth 447 points (409 from stats, six from the media, and 32 from the players).

San Miguel’s six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo, who played in his first conference after suffering a leg injury in 2020, placed fifth with 403 total points (386 from stats and 17 from the players).

Abueva is the second Hotshot to win a BPC in three years after Paul Lee won the award for the 2018 Governors’ Cup.
