MANILA, Philippines—TNT claimed its first title in six years after a dominant win over Magnolia, 94-79, in 2021 PBA Philippine Cup finals Game 5 Friday at DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Wrapping up the series at 4-1, the Tropang Giga won their first Philippine Cup in eight years to push the franchise’s title trophy count to eight.
After trailing early, 10-5, TNT picked up its pace well into the next quarter going on a 16-2 run to wrest the momentum all the way to the end.
Rookie Mikey Williams, who was a runner up to Calvin Abueva in the Best Player of the Conference Race, capped off his first conference in the league with a Finals MVP performance for the Tropang Giga.
“The players really put in the effort, stayed together throughout the adversity and this is a great reward for their hardships,” said Reyes, who made his return to the PBA this year after a nine-year absence.
“We now look forward to the next and hope we can compete again.”
Williams finished with a game-high 24 points with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals to lead the Tropang Giga while Roger Pogoy had 19 points and three steals.
Jayson Castro also finished in double figures for TNT with 10 points with two steals and one block.
Ian Sangalang had 18 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks to lead the Hotshots Abueva added 14 points and seven boards.
